Accessibility Statement
Effective Date: December 2, 2025
Organization: Special Neshamahs (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit)
Website: specialneshamas.com
Contact: specialneshamahs@gmail.com
Our Commitment
Special Neshamahs is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability, technology, or circumstance. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA and follow best practices for usability and inclusive design.
Measures We Take
To support accessibility, we:
- Build pages with semantic HTML, headings, and proper landmarks.
- Provide text alternatives for non-text content (alt text, aria-labels as needed).
- Maintain sufficient color contrast and visible focus styles.
- Ensure content and functionality are accessible by keyboard.
- Use responsive design for different screens and zoom levels.
- Provide clear link purpose and consistent navigation.
- Test with common assistive technologies (e.g., NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver) and modern browsers.
Conformance Status
We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Our site is undergoing continuous improvement. Some content or third-party features may not yet fully meet the standard; see “Known Limitations & Third-Party Content” below.
Compatibility With Browsers and Assistive Technology
The site is designed to work with:
- The latest versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge
- Screen readers such as NVDA (Windows), JAWS (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), and TalkBack (Android)
- Keyboard-only navigation and standard zoom up to 200%+
Known Limitations & Third-Party Content
While we strive for full accessibility, some areas may present challenges:
- Embedded services (e.g., Google Maps, YouTube/Vimeo videos, forms, event or donation widgets) may not be fully under our control.
- Google reCAPTCHA is used to prevent spam/abuse; it is governed by Google’s policies and may introduce accessibility considerations.
- Older PDFs or legacy documents may not yet be fully tagged for accessibility.
If you encounter an issue, please let us know so we can provide an accessible alternative and address the root cause.
Feedback & Requests for Accommodation
If you experience a barrier on our site or need content in an alternative format, contact us:
- Email: specialneshamahs@gmail.com
- What to include (helpful): page URL, a brief description of the problem, your assistive tech or browser, and the preferred format if applicable.
We aim to respond to accessibility inquiries within 2 business days and resolve issues as promptly as possible.
Ongoing Process & Evaluation
Our approach combines:
- Self-evaluation and manual testing against WCAG criteria
- Automated checks for color contrast, structure, and ARIA use
- Content editor guidance (alt-text prompts, link-text checks, heading/order checks)
We periodically review templates, media, and new components for accessibility before publication.
Design & Authoring Practices We Follow
- Use of skip-to-content links and consistent ARIA landmarks (e.g., header, nav, main, footer).
- Clear form labels, error messages, and success confirmations.
- Avoid auto-playing media; provide captions/transcripts where media is used.
- Maintain logical tab order and avoid keyboard traps.
- Mark decorative images as presentational where appropriate.
What You Can Do
- Use your browser’s built-in zoom and reader modes as needed.
- If a control or form is unclear, email us; we’ll supply instructions or an alternative method.
Formal Complaints
We value the opportunity to fix issues directly. If you believe your accessibility rights are not being respected, you may also consider contacting relevant authorities (e.g., U.S. Department of Justice ADA Information Line). This statement is not legal advice.
Updates to This Statement
We may update this statement to reflect improvements, feedback, or regulatory changes. The Effective Date above indicates the latest revision.
